Katie Merriman, MS, RD, CD
Katie first became interested in nutrition after taking a physiology course in high school. She knew she wanted to go into health care and her passion for good food lead her in the direction of nutrition. After earning her Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Katie went on to complete a Dietetic Internship at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. From there, she began her career as a home care dietitian at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. While working part time at the VA, Katie enrolled in a Master’s Program at Mount Mary College which she completed in the fall of 2010. As a part of her program, Katie conducted research on the nutritional needs of spinal cord injured patients. The experience sparked her interest in research and she hopes to be involved in more projects in the future.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys being in the kitchen, discovering new ways to incorporate healthy foods into the meals she prepares for herself and her friends. Some of her favorite weekend activities include visiting local farmers markets and cheering on the Wisconsin Badger football team. Katie likes to stay active by practicing yoga, walking, running and dancing. Mostly, she likes to get outside and enjoy the seasons of Wisconsin.
